A vibrating ring is a soft, stretchy band worn around the base of the penis, with a small vibrating nub that you both feel when your bodies are close. How to use a vibrating ring, or a U-shaped couples vibrator worn by a partner with a vulva, comes down to a few calm steps: read the manual, start on the lowest setting and agree together on who holds the controls. Take the ring off straight away if it feels too tight, causes numbness or coldness, or hurts.
What a vibrating ring is, and who feels what
A vibrating ring has two parts: a flexible band that sits snugly at the base of the penis, and a small motor housed in a nub on one side. The person wearing it feels the gentle hold of the band and the vibration close by. Their partner feels the nub where the two bodies meet, which is why it is often called a couples vibrating ring.
Oberon, the vibrating ring in our Couples collection, is built around that idea. According to the manufacturer, its sculpted nub is placed so both partners feel the rhythm, the ring is soft and stretchy, and there are 9 vibration settings, which you change from the ring itself or from the companion app. You will find the full details on the Oberon product page.
It helps to see a vibrating ring for what it is: a sex toy for shared sensation, not a medical device. Oberon's description makes no promises about erections or stamina, and if you have questions about either, talk to a doctor.
How to put on and use a vibrating ring
Start with a conversation: a toy for two works when you have both said yes to trying it. Then read Oberon's manual before the first use, including how the ring should sit and the time limit for wearing it, and go step by step, without hurrying.
- Charge and clean it. Use the USB cable supplied, then wash it with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner.
- Add a little lubricant. A few drops of water-based lubricant inside the ring help it slide on gently. Silicone-based lubricants can damage silicone toys.
- Put it on as the manual shows. Stretch the ring gently and ease it down to the base, with the nub on the side that faces your partner. Never force it.
- Start low. Begin on the gentlest of the 9 settings and change it only when you both want to.
- Keep checking in. Ask each other how it feels, and take the ring off as soon as you are done.
The ring should feel snug, never tight. Take it off straight away if it feels too tight, causes numbness or coldness, or hurts. Follow the time limit in the manual, never fall asleep wearing it, and do not use it on broken, irritated or inflamed skin. If anything still feels wrong once the ring is off, talk to a doctor.
How to use a U-shaped couples vibrator
A U-shaped couples vibrator is worn by a partner with a vulva. One arm usually rests inside the vagina and the other outside, against the clitoris, and the flexible bend keeps it in place while you are close. Because it stays where it is, you both feel the vibration at the same time.
Celesta follows this design. The manufacturer describes a flexible U shape worn together, 10 vibration frequencies, a wireless remote in the box, magnetic USB charging and a weight of about 125 g, and rates it IPX7. In the manufacturer's words, while Celesta is worn, both partners feel the vibration, and whoever holds the remote sets the pace.
- Charge and clean it before the first use, and check in the manual how it should sit.
- Use a little water-based lubricant, settle it gently and adjust the curve until it feels comfortable.
- Start on the lowest frequency, and change position slowly so it does not slip.
- If it slips or presses, pause, take it out and put it back calmly rather than forcing it.

Button, remote or app: who sets the pace
The two toys are controlled in different ways. Oberon can be adjusted from the ring itself or from the companion app, so either of you can take charge. Celesta comes with a wireless remote, and whoever holds it chooses the rhythm.
Handing over the controls can be part of the fun, as long as you agree on it first. Before you start, decide who holds the remote or the phone, how either of you asks for a pause, and that "stop" always means stop, with no discussion. Consent is not a single yes: either of you can change your mind at any moment.
If you use the app, read its privacy information before you pair the toy, as you would with any app. To understand how app and remote control work, and what changes when you play at a distance, see our guide to long-distance and app-controlled vibrators, or browse the Remote & App collection.
Cleaning and storage
Clean both toys before and after every use with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner. The manufacturer describes Oberon as waterproof and easy to clean, and rates Celesta IPX7; even so, keep the charging contacts dry and never charge a toy while it is wet. None of our silicone toys may be boiled, because they all contain electronics.
Let them dry fully, then store them in a cool, dry place, separately from other toys and out of reach of children: like everything we sell, they are for adults only. Our guide on how to clean your toys covers materials and lubricants in more detail, and our FAQ answers common questions about materials and packaging.
Questions
What does a vibrating ring do for a man?
It adds vibration close to the base of the penis, which the wearer feels, while the nub passes the rhythm on to a partner. It is a sex toy, not a medical device: if you have concerns about erections, talk to a doctor.
Where do you put a pleasure ring?
Around the base of the penis, with the vibrating nub on the side that faces your partner. Oberon's manual shows the exact position.
Do vibrating rings make you last longer?
Nothing in Oberon's description promises that: it is made for shared vibration, and it is not a medical device. If you have questions about erections or timing, a doctor is the right person to ask.
Are there side effects?
A ring that is too tight, or worn for too long, can cause discomfort, numbness or coldness. Take it off straight away if you notice any of these or feel pain, follow the time limit in the manual, and talk to a doctor if you have a health condition or something still feels wrong.
Can you wear a vibrating ring with a condom?
Check the manual first, as it explains how Oberon should be worn. If you use condoms, make sure the ring does not pull or shift the condom, and with latex condoms use only a water-based lubricant.
Ring or U-shaped vibrator: how do we choose?
Think about who will wear it and how you like to share control. Oberon is worn by a partner with a penis and is adjusted from the ring or the app; Celesta is worn by a partner with a vulva and comes with a wireless remote. You will find both in our Couples collection.
